Mike Corless
Consultant

Mike Corless has 20 years experience in the equity markets in investment management, equity research and corporate finance. He is a qualified accountant and an expert in corporate valuation techniques.

Mike graduated from Manchester Polytechnic with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance. He qualified as an accountant with Grant Thornton International before moving to a corporate finance role with Ernst & Whinney, where he worked on a range of capital markets transactions including cross-border acquisitions for clients such as BTR plc and Hanson plc.

In 1989, Mike joined Allied Dunbar Asset Management and became a fund manager specialising in income funds. In 1996, Mike joined Scottish Widows where he became head of UK Equities. Mike achieved top quartile investment performance and established a new UK investment process.

In 2001, Mike joined HSBC Asset Management as head of European Equity Research establishing a research process and leading edge valuation techniques including Holt CFROI, DCF, EVA and various relative valuation tools. In 2004, Mike became Global Head of Equity Research.

In his role as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Mike was a member of the advisory board on the Operating and Financial Review (“OFR”) that reported to the UK Accounting Standards Board. Mike has researched various industry sectors, and whilst he specialised in managing income funds he has also managed life, pensions and growth funds. Mike specialises in training company valuation, practical corporate finance and financial modelling.
